UPM Raflatac launches new acrylic adhesive for chilled food labeling

UPM Raflatac has introduced a new RP48 AT (All-Temperature) acrylic adhesive for chilled food labeling in the European market.

With enhanced adhesion, water resistance and convertibility features, the RP48 AT serves as an alternative to hotmelt adhesives for labeling food packages stored in moist and chilled conditions.  

The labeled and stored food packaging at 10°C or colder will create risk for brand owners and packers.

Hotmelt adhesives used to label foods stored in colder conditions will suffer from limited clarity and convertibility.

RP48 AT holds capacity to deal with a wide variety of temperatures, and withstands chilled conditions to help labels on food packaging remain firmly in place and retain their shelf appeal.

The new adhesive will also offer enhanced quality when used with clear film faces, helping to improve the stability and efficiency of the converting and dispensing processes.

RP48 AT can be used with the firm’s PP White FTC 60 or PP Clear FTC 50 film face materials.

UPM Raflatac EMEIA and films segment manager Päivi Knihti said: "For food labeling applications, RP48 AT combines the best properties of hotmelt and acrylic adhesives.

"The adhesive performs extremely well in moist and chilled conditions, while also offering good performance in converting and dispensing, as well as high clarity for clear film faces.”

In January this year, the company launched new Synlite Xtra outdoor-resistant film for industrial chemical labeling applications.

The lightweight and production-efficient PP-based matt film has high level of resistance which in required in challenging outdoor conditions.

Designed to offer good UV resistance, the Synlite Xtra film has good printing properties with thermal transfer and conventional printing methods.
